Mayor To Unveil New Budget This Week

Louisville Mayor Jerry Abramson will unveil his proposed budget for Metro Government this week. The budget will cover the next fiscal year, which begins on July 1st. He’ll send it to the Metro Council Thursday for consideration. The budget was drafted amid predictions of the slowest local economic growth since the city/county merger in 2003. More than $12 million has already been cut from the current budget to offset a drop in revenue from the tax on business profits.Mayor’s spokesperson Kerri Richardson says those cuts will continue into the next budget cycle.“There will be no changes in the public service sector as far as any cutbacks on their budget numbers," says Richarson. "There’s going to be some minor changes, but a lot of those people have already heard about.”Richardson says a city-wide hiring freeze will remain in place in the next budget.
