The Republican from Louisville now has a shot at regaining the congressional seat she lost after 10 years to Democrat John Yarmuth in 2006. Northup originally had three GOP opponents until one dropped out of the race last weekend. But polls projected she would have no trouble winning this nomination by a wide margin. And she did: with most of the votes counted this evening, Northup led with nearly 80 percent of the Republican vote.At her St. Matthews headquarters tonight, she thanked her opponents for a vigorous debate.“I’m pleased we were able to have this important discussion, and I hope that all of us will be able to focus our work on re-taking this district.”Northup now goes on to face democratic opponent John Yarmuth—the incumbent—this fall.
