U of L Hosts Parkinson's Conference

Researchers from around the world are coming to Louisville  Thursday for the Second International Brainstorming Conference on Parkinson's Disease.Dr. Irene Litvan, director of the University of Louisville's Division of Movement Disorder, says some the top experts in the field will share their knowledge during the two-day event at Jewish Hospital's downtown campus."This is a very timely opportunity to discuss what truly parkinson's disease is.   There are many new findings that have occurred in the past few years,"Litvan says there will also be a session focusing on caregivers, led by Lonnie Ali, the wife of former boxing champ Muhammad Ali, who was diagnosed with Parkinson's more than 20 years ago.Parkinson's disease, a progressive disorder of the central nervous system, affects more than 1.5  million people in the United States.

Rick Howlett was midday host and the host of LPM's weekly talk show, "In Conversation." He was with LPM from 2001-2023 and held many different titles, including Morning Edition host, Assignment Editor and Interim News Director. He died in August 2023. Read a remembrance of Rick here.
