The Kentucky Board of Education will hold its annual retreat this week. The panel will convene Tuesday and Wednesday at Berry Hill Mansion in Frankfort.Education department spokesperson Lisa Gross says there won’t be any official business conducted at the event."They won’t take any action; this is not a regular meeting. So this is the kind of meeting where they get together to talk about what they want to do," says Gross. "They’ll have people come in and discuss some of the plans that could be made, discuss some of the issues they need to deal with.”Gross says one item of discussion will be the strategy for having all public schools achieve state mandated academic proficiency goals by 2014.Governor Steve Beshear appointed five new members to the board last week.
