Brain tumors seems to be a favorite plot device in overwrought medical dramas - to most of us they represent terminal illness with debilitating symptoms. In the real world, a brain tumor is any abnormal growth of cells in the brain, and can be malignant or benign. Some cancers begin in the brain, and others start elsewhere and metastasize there.
