The student assignment committee of Jefferson County Public Schools has made more changes to the two proposed student assignment plans under consideration by the board of education.Student Assignment Director Pat Todd said at a Monday night board meeting that all the changes were in response to parent complaints about various elements of the two plans. Board member Larry Hujo thanked them for the work, but added it isn’t feasible to try to make all parents happy."And that’s the unfortunate part about this, because you do want to try to maintain some consistency for parents and children, but in the long run, on that final day, when we take that vote, someone’s not going to be happy," said Hujo.Board members say the continuous changes are making the process of selecting a student assignment plan more challenging. The board will choose one of the two plans at its May 12 meeting, then iron out details of the chosen plan at a special meeting in June.Last year, the U. S. Supreme Court declared the district’s 30 year old desegregation plan unconstitutional.
