Designer Of Barbaro Memorial To Be Announced

The owners of Kentucky Derby champion Barbaro will announce this week which artist has been chosen to design a memorial at the horse's Louisville burial site.Owners Gretchen and Roy Jackson announced in January that Barbaro's ashes would be interred at Churchill Downs, where the throroughbred captured the 2006 Derby.Barbaro was euthanized about eight months later after suffering an injury in the Preakness Stakes.Roy Jackson said during the January announcement that he wanted the memorial to be something special."We would hope that it won't be sort of the standard statue. we would hope that it would be something that would represent his love of running," he said. The Barbaro burial site will be in a garden just outside the track, and will be open to the public. It's scheduled for completion in 2009.
