Vietnam War Memorial Replica Arrives In Danville

A traveling replica of the Vietnam War Memorial is making a stop in Kentucky. The Traveling Wall, as it's known, is a half-size replica of the memorial in Washington, D.C. and is one of three created by the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund. It's on display through Sunday at Centre College in Danville.Kentucky Department of Veterans Affairs Commissioner Les Beavers says the mobile version allows people who can't make it to the nation's capital an opportunity to experience the wall, which is etched with the names of the American servicemen and women who lost thier lives in the war.Beavers, who's a retired Army general and Vietnam veteran, says the display will be open around the clock."Which is significant too because i think a lot of people like to visit the wall in the evening, in the twilight and at night, and we've got a good moonlight time. It's a time of reflection so it's a beautiful season to go visit the wall," Beavers said. The wall is accompanied by a mobile museum that tells the story of the Vietnam War.Kentucky has 118-thousand living Vietnam veterans.
