Kentucky Bridges Inspected After Morning Earthquake

Bridge inspectors with the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet are checking spans in western Kentucky and Louisville today as a precaution after the early morning earthquake. The 5.2 quake’s epicenter was in West Salem, Illinois. But Kentucky Transportation Cabinet officials ordered the inspections out of what they call ‘an abundance of caution’. Spokesperson Chuck Wolfe says Kentuckians are not used to seismic events, and want reassurance."People understandably may question whether their bridges are safe, we have no reason to think any of our bridges have been damaged by the quake and we have in fact found nothing to this point," said Wolfe.Wolfe says bridges that will be inspected today in Louisville include the Kennedy Bridge and elevated parts of Spaghetti Junction.
