40th Anniversary of the national Fair Housing Act

Forty years ago this month, President Lyndon Johnson signed into law the Civil Rights Act of 1968. Title VIII of that legislation prohibited discrimination concerning the sale, rental, and financing of housing based on race, religion, national origin, sex. It has since been amended to include handicap and family status. This language has become known as the Fair Housing Act, and although it purports to end housing discrimination, few would argue that we still have progress to make in ensuring free housing access to all. Join us Friday as we learn more about the history of fair housing and where we stand with it today.
