With less than a month to go before the Indiana primary, Senator Barack Obama visited the state Friday to campaign.Every member of the Clinton family has visited Indiana in the past two weeks, and this week Senator Obama will stop in six cities across the Hoosier state. In a town hall meeting at Columbus High School in southern Indiana, Senator Obama fielded a question about gay marriage, a topic he hasn’t spent much time discussing in his campaign.“I’m not in favor of gay marriage but I am in favor of a very strong civil union which allows same sex couples to transfer property, to share social security benefits, to be recognized legally by the state for their relationship, I think that is very important," he said.Obama also defended his statement that he would meet with the leaders of Iran and Cuba.“Some people, Senator Clinton, Senator McCain, George Bush, Dick Cheney, they all say, ‘You can’t do that.’ I said, ‘Yes I can,’ because I remember what John F. Kennedy once said. He said, ‘We can never negotiate out of fear but we can never fear to negotiate.’ That’s what strong countries and strong presidents do, they talk to their adversaries," said Obama.
Indiana’s primary is on May 6th. The state has 72 delegates.
