Casino Gambling on Hold, Beshear Still Hopeful

From Kentucky Public Radio's Tony McVeigh Only 17 days remain in the 2008 session of the Kentucky General Assembly, but Governor Steve Beshear still hopes lawmakers will approve casino gambling legislation before they go home. A casino amendment that cleared committee almost two weeks ago has languished, but Beshear doesn’t blame House Democratic leaders."I’m convinced that they have given an effort to try to pass the casino legislation. Obviously, some of the disagreements they had in leadership hampered the effort for awhile, but we’re trying to work through that and we’re gonna give it our best shot," says Beshear. The constitutional amendment, which would allow nine casinos to do business in the state, needs 50 votes in the House and 23 votes in the Senate before it can be put on the November ballot.
