State Seeks Superintendent Interns

The Kentucky Department of Education is seeking two minority educators for the superintendent internship program.Since 2003 the program has allowed minority candidates with proper credentials to shadow Kentucky superintendents for one year. Afterwards, the interns are ready to be superintendents themselves.Department spokesperson Lisa Gross says the program came out of a statistical necessity.“One of the things Kentucky is known for, and this not a good thing to be known for, is that we don’t have a lot of minorities in administrative positions in our school systems," says Gross. The program typically accepts at least two interns. Since it’s inception, two graduates have become superintendents of school systems. One is still in office.
