Ky House Leaders Seek Revenue

From Kentucky Public Radio's Tony McVeigh: Democratic leaders of the Kentucky House Sunday began putting the final touches on their version of the next biennial state budget, and they're desperately seeking new revenue. After hours of private talks with budget subcommittee chairs that stretched into the night, House budget chairman Harry Moberly emerged to say at least 800-million dollars in new revenue is needed to have "an acceptable budget.""We found a few million to move around in some of these budgets at this point, but our revenue package will have to make up most of the difference."Moberly says House leaders will present several revenue options, including a cigarette tax hike, to the Democratic caucus this week. A committee vote on the budget is planned for next Monday, followed by a House floor vote on Tuesday. The budget would then move to the Senate. This is day 37 of the session, meaning only 23 days remain before adjournment.
