MSD projects get federal funding

Two projects to ease flooding in Metro Louisville have received federal funding. Metropolitan Sewer District Director Bud Schardein says more than $240,000 will be spent on studies of the southwest part of county, where the risk for flooding is great.“It’s the first phase in the Corps of Engineers process, of evaluating what alternatives would work best, whether it be backflow valves in people’s basements, or storage basins to store rain water during wet weather events, or a combination of the two,” said Schardein.Another more than $490,000 will be used to install 21,000 feet of new sewers in Shively – where residents sometimes experience flash flooding and sewer overflow.Schardein says the addition of those sewer lines will eliminate the need for three sanitary pumping stations there.
