The Dead Daisies: “People wrote us off, but we still have damage to do"

The Dead Daisies's Doug Aldrich & Deen Castronovo on Burn It Down, Ozzy's Shaved Eyebrow Pranks, and Lemmy Pulling the Fire Alarm

If you ever wondered what it was like to be in a band with a rotating cast of hard rock’s finest, The Dead Daisies are here to tell you: it’s loud, it’s fast, and you better be ready for some late-night debauchery with Ozzy, Lemmy, or David Coverdale.

With their latest album Burn It Down, The Dead Daisies—now featuring ex-Journey drummer Deen Castronovo and Whitesnake/Dio shredder Doug Aldrich—are back with a record that delivers big riffs, bigger hooks, and an energy that screams “let’s set something on fire.”

“We did it in Nashville with Marti Frederiksen, and the vibe was killer,” says Aldrich. “We’d just jam, get a groove going, and boom—it’s on tape.”

Castronovo, the newest recruit, barely had time to unpack before tracking drums.

“They flew me in, I met the band, and three days later, I was recording the record,” he laughs. “No time to overthink anything—just hit hard and go.”

The lineup may shift, but the common thread has always been frontman John Corabi.

“It all comes down to Corabi,” Aldrich says. “The singer is the soul of the band, and John’s got that grit, that classic rock ‘n’ roll rasp. No matter who’s in the band, he’s the anchor.”

The new singles—Resurrected and Rise Up—are full of fist-pumping, stadium-sized rock.

“Corabi told me Resurrected was about him and me,” Castronovo says. “People wrote us off. Thought we were done. Nope. We’re back, and we’ve still got damage to do.”

As for Rise Up?

“Some people are calling it a protest song, but for me, it’s just about waking up, getting coffee, and kicking ass,” says Aldrich. “It’s a reminder to go do something positive.”

Of course, no Dead Daisies interview would be complete without some rock war stories. Castronovo recalls the time he was on tour with Ozzy and Lemmy pulled the fire alarm at 5 AM “just for the hell of it.”

“We’re all outside in our underwear, and there’s Lemmy grinning like a devil,” he laughs. “Ozzy didn’t even leave his room.”

Aldrich fires back with a Whitesnake tale:

“Coverdale had his room decorated with candles and tapestries every night—real mood-setting stuff. One night, a candle melted the toilet, which exploded and set his room on fire. He came back furious, convinced one of us did it.”

With a U.S. tour kicking off in August and Burn It Down ready to do just that, The Dead Daisies are keeping the old-school rock dream alive—one face-melting riff at a time.
