Album of the Month: Nada Surf : Peaceful Ghosts

Longtime WFPK favorites Nada Surf have had quite a year. 2016 has seen the release of their critically acclaimed album 'You Know Who You Are", as well as closing out our Waterfront Wednesday season.  Once in danger of being relegated to "one-hit wonder" status after the success of 1996's "Popular", Nada Surf continued on with a slew of solid pop albums. Over the course of their 20-plus year history, the band played hundreds of gigs, but never with an orchestra. Once a year, FM4 radio in Austria, chooses an artist for a national orchestral concert that is broadcast across the country, and they reached out to Nada Surf asking if the band would like to be the next. Soon after receiving the FM4 request, the band secured a similar offer from Radio Eins in Berlin to perform live on air with the Babelsberg Film Orchestra, which derives it's name from and is affiliated with the legendary Babelsberg Studios where notable films such as Metropolis, Dr. Mabuse, and The Blue Angel were made. This summer Nada Surf recorded shows with the ORF Radio Symphony Orchestra (Vienna) and the Babelsberg Film Orchestra (Berlin), and compiled the album 'Peaceful Ghosts' from these performances. We're happy to announce that Nada Surf's 'Peaceful Ghosts' is WFPK's Album of the Month.
