There's been a ton of media coverage, but we're still discovering not everyone is in the know about the closing of earX-tacy record store. After a long struggle to stay in operation, owner John Timmons issued a statement just before 6 O'clock yesterday evening. He said owning the store "has been a dream come true" but it was time to close the doors permanently.
I speak for the entire staff of WFPK when I say it feels like we've lost a spoke from the wheel that keeps our musical community strong. John and his staff paved the way for independently owned Louisville businesses and have our utmost admiration and respect.
Everyone who patronized the store over the last 26 years has their own story about how experiences there effected them personally; discovering that record that changed your outlook on life, being introduced to a favorite Louisville band at an in-store performance, smelling the musty vinyl as you flipped through in search of the ultimate find.
We send our love to John and the entire staff of earX-tacy as they begin the next chapter in their lives. The store's facebook page has been inundated with fond memories and best wishes from our community of music lovers. You can add yours here.
