Contrary to popular expectations, there is the occasional great americana band that comes out of New York City. And maybe it's because of the constant surroundings of buildings and asphalt that sends a band so far into a dust-bowl nostalgia that they end up coming out a purer breed than the bands wasting their days staring at dust themselves. Okay, more time's than not, that's certainly not the case, but every once in a while... Take the band My Cousin, The Emperor. They recently uploaded the title track to their new disc that has My Old Kentucky Blog raving, declaring that the secret weapon they have on all of their alt-country friends is the direct influence on Nick Drake thrown it. Its a good enticement and one that may have you donning some rugged levi's the next time you hit the Apple. My Cousin, The Emperor with A Long Way From Home on The Daily Feed.
