Well, by golly it isn’t hot and dusty THIS year…
Metallica’s show was late getting started last evening because of a lovely shower. When the rain died down the band did their best to win over the crowd, but my impression was they didn’t succeed. Don’t get me wrong – those that already loved Metallica had their fists in the air and were in hard rock heaven. But casual fans seemed strangely unmoved. At one point Metallica’s sound was interrupted by some weird technical glitch. This lasted or only 20 seconds or so, but that seemed to be the cue for 1000s of people to start leaving the show.
I ran back to change into something warmer and that’s when the heavens absolutely erupted with a major downpour. The rain didn’t stop My Morning Jacket from rocking the crowd; God bless those sturdy Louisville boys and their fans! Since I had just seen MMJ Monday at WFPK’s Member’s Only show and since I was relatively dry under the awning covering our campsite, I decided to stay there and just listen to the show. Before I knew it I was hitting the sleeping bag for the night. My camping buddy Karen usually goes to sleep way before me, but last night she caught most of MMJ (they played till 4am!) and then saw the sun rise while grooving to a DJ from Holland named Tiesto.
I awoke early this morning to the sound of the guy in the tent next to ours snoring loud enough to raise the dead. It was then I saw that the floor of our tent has about two inches of standing water covering it. Good times! I just walked outside to find it drizzling again. Yee Dog, let’s ROCK & ROLL mud style!
