The riches of Archive.org

If you've never spent any time at Archive.org, you're doing yourself a disservice, especially if you're a live music fan. The site, which aims to catalog and permanently archive darn near everything that is in the public domain, features a massive live music archive. All of the concerts here are posted with the blessing of the artist.

For a lot of people, the highlight is the Grateful Dead collection, which includes nearly 5,000 live shows. But there's a bunch of stuff of local interest too, like this recent Josh Ritter show at Headliner's - or, for that matter, how about a complete list of all the shows on the site recorded at Headliner's? Or how about all shows recorded in Louisville?

(And yeah, I realize I've already mentioned the Dead archive, but I just have to point out: Bellarmine, 1968!!!!)

Archive.org also maintains huge databases of public domain text and video; that means that tons of old movies are in here for your viewing pleasure. Night of the Living Dead, the original The Man Who Knew Too Much, Nosferatu, Royal Wedding, D.O.A., Santa Claus Conquers the Martians, Angel and the Badman ... and on and on and on. As with the concert recordings, you can either stream these in your browser or download for viewing on your desktop or your portable device.

Goodbye, productivity! It was nice knowing you!
