There were a lot of great releases this year, but the one I keep coming back to is "Emotionalism" by the North Carolina band The Avett Brothers. I guess it's a combination of their youthful enthusiasm, charismatic presense, earnest songwiting, sibling harmonies and the way they bring something new to the time honored tradition of acoustic music. I had a copy in my car for weeks, until I gladly gave it to a friend after I'd talked them up at a dinner party. How could I be so cavalier? My heart ached until I found a replacement copy! My loyality as a true blue fan was clinched when I saw their live performance at WFPK's Waterfront Wednesday last July.
