In Indiana Congressional Race, Yoder Reports Sluggish Second Quarter Fundraising

In the Indiana Ninth congressional district race, Democrat Shelli Yoder has filed a tepid fundraising report.Yoder is a political newcomer and she brought in just over $93,000 in the second quarter of this year. She faces Republican incumbent Todd Young, who garnered $311,000 in the same period. According to documents filed with the Federal Election Commission, Yoder has $73,000 total on hand, compared to the nearly $900,000 in Young’s coffers.Yoder says she is running a grassroots campaign and is proud that the overwhelming majority of her donors are individual contributors."I knew that it was going to be an uphill climb. I knew I was getting into this as the underdog, which is why I’m going to work so hard and we have a strong campaign staff. Money is money, but voices and people truly speaking up and acting out. At the end of the day it is who shows up to vote," she says.Yoder was also outspent in the Democratic primary but pulled out a victory over well-known candidates.  The Yoder campaign points out that the majority of contributors are from Indiana and are small donors, arguing that's proof she isn’t bound by special interest or partisan politics. The ninth district covers most of Southern Indiana.
